Oral and Dental Health Care

Oral and Dental Health Care

A detailed oral care is your greatest protector. With tooth brushing, only a part of the plaque on the teeth can be removed and cleaning cannot be achieved between the teeth. Therefore, the cleaning of the interface of the teeth is also very important.

Correct Tooth Brushing

You must have the right brush type (straight handle, short head, equal bristles). Toothpaste should be applied along the bristles of a dry brush (the brush should not be wet).

Gingival Alignment Should Also Be Given Importance

Teeth should be brushed 2 times a day for 2-3 minutes each time as recommended by your dentist. The brush is placed at the level of the tooth-gum with an angle of 45 degrees to enter the gap. The brush is moved back and forth slightly and a sweeping motion is made along the tooth. This technique is applied for the anterior and posterior surfaces of all teeth. Finally, the chewing surfaces of the teeth are thoroughly cleaned with back-and-forth movements.

Cleaning the Intermediate Surfaces of the Teeth

Dental floss: It is the most recommended method for interface cleaning. When using dental floss, we manipulate the floss with our thumb and index fingers. Dental floss is wrapped around the tooth in a C-shape and is used to clean only the area of the tooth that we wrap at one time. While cleaning the tooth area we wrap, it should be gently moved up and down as far as the rope goes. In patients using bridges, special dental floss is used, since dental floss cannot enter between the teeth.

Interface tooth brush: It is suitable for individuals with gaps between their teeth, teeth with concave side surface area and for cleaning between the roots of teeth with gingival recessed in the posterior region. It has different sizes in different colours to suit every patient. Interface brushes are not disposable and can be used until they are coloured. Consult your dentist for the right interface brush.

Care and Cleaning of Dentures:

  • Removable prostheses should not be left in water overnight, they should be kept in a damp cloth.
  • Removable dentures should be cleaned under running water after meals and brushed with a soft toothbrush.
  • Soapy water or special cleaning tablets can be used for cleaning removable dentures.
  • Fixed dentures must be brushed and flossed like teeth.
  • In fixed prostheses, the bottom of the bridges made to edentulous areas must be cleaned. For this, cleaning should be done by passing under the bridges by using special dental floss whose ends are like fishing line.

The Importance Of Oral In Orthodontic Patiens

The incidence of dental and gingival diseases increases in patients undergoing orthodontic treatment. Since there is a lot of material in the mouth during treatment, an environment is provided for microorganisms to live and multiply here. Therefore, patients who receive orthodontic treatment should pay attention to their oral and dental care. These patients should clean the brackets and between the teeth with interface brushes in addition to their normal oral and dental care.
